I actually pioneered from the time I was 19 until I was 39 and worked at least a full time job and was an MS. Half of those years were 90 hours a month and then the last half were 70 hours a month. I did not do the common start your time with at tract in a phone booth crap. For some stupid reason I thought I actually had to do the time. Living in a rural area we did do a lot of rural service though I did my fair share of walking blocks. As the territory servant I would work all the town territory that no one else would work so that the CO would not yell at me for having territory over a year old. My schedule was service seven days a week and work six days a week. After I got married I also added a second job to that schedule working three nights a week,and I was an elder for several of those final years serving as a book study conductor, service overseer, circuit speaker, sound coordinator and substitute TMS overseer as well. When I stopped being an elder and a Pioneer it was the greatest moment of my life up to that point. A total relief.. Of course I had started to suspect that I had been wasting my time and my life. Now I look back and it makes me so mad that I wasted so much of my life on bull shit.

Finding time
by Jordandemm inis it possible to full time pioneer while working a full time job without making up the hours?
i know of a brother who recently got married too a pioneer the guy was really desperate to get married because his wife despite her many 'spiritual credentials' has very few christ-like qualities unfortunately, anyway that's besides the point.
he is a pioneer now and i'm sure he will be a ms soon the organisation likes that type of stuff the 'pioneer couple' so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

A question for you Mormons out there

could a practicing mormon women who didn't work, but who was a married to a none practicing mormon man who was the sole income provider.
could she still get a temple recommend if he flatly refused to tithe.

I actually know the answer to this as I live in a predominately Mormon area. A friend of mine married a Mormon girl when he as DFd. After many years he eventually went back to the JW cult and she responded by becoming more involved with her Mormon faith. Normally women can only get a temple recommend in one of two ways 1. she went on a mission when she was around 21 or 2. she was married in a temple ceremony where she was sealed to a believing Mormon man with temple recommends. Since this women had done neither for many years she was left out in the cold not able to do temple work or participate in other privileges. In recent years a change was made that allowed her to get her magic underwear and do service in the temple. I do not know the reasoning behind that but I do know it is now possible. BTW her husband refuses to allow any of their money to be donated to the Mormon church as he is an elder and that would disqualify him from his privileges so she did not buy her way into the temple. -

Mormons vs. Jehovah's Witnesses
by Downtowner inforgive me if this has been covered before but i haven't seen anything about it recently.. in exploring the two faiths, mormons vs. jehovah's witnesses, which were both founded in the 1800s with the mormons being slightly a slightly older religion it seems mormons is a more attractive religion than jehovah's witnesses.
do not get me wrong, i'm not looking at joining the mormon church.
but i still enjoy studying other faiths and different belief systems.

Much of my extended family belong to the LDS religion while my immediate family are all JWs (except me who is an ex JW and current atheist).
A few other details about Mormons. They tithe and if you do not give your 10% you are excluded from their sacred communion and all church assistance. They exclude nonbelievers from weddings which are held in their temples. They also have very strange temple rituals that are supposed to be kept secret among believers with temple recamends. They believe in laying on of hands and blessings for the weak, spiritually ill and the actual sick. They really credit blessings for healing. They are also very prejudice. Many of the diehards still believe the teaching about native Americans that as they gaine gods blessings they become white and delight-some. After they started to allow blacks into their priesthood in the 70s they amended their holy books to say pure and delight-some. They hate gays and are very vocal about it. They also have a confession system that while it does not involve Disfellowshiping, it does involve confession and atonement. Bishops (kind of like elders) will hear the confessions of young teens and ask very intrusive questions such as if they masturbate or if they have been involved in any kind of sexual activity. Their view on sex is extremely conservative maybe even more so then witnesses. They don't believe in using any type of birth control and if you do not get married after you return from a mission (for men) or before you finish college (for women) you are looked down on and will not get callings in the church. Couple are expected to start having babies almost immediately.
:Those are just a few of the details about the Mormons that I can think of right now. Some do mirror Witnesses so are way different but they are both cults who want to control.
One of the Governing body a few years ago was a Mormon previously or had close Mormon ties. I think it was Swingle. I met some of his extended family and was involved in a Judicial Meeting with one of them. My wife and I sometimes joke that he influenced a lot of the similarities. While he was dead by the time Family Worship began that is almost a total ripoff of the Mormon Family Home Evening.

Have you tried Richard Carrier? I have always enjoyed his debates and lectures so I tried his books. On the Historicity of Jesus is his newest and audibile has it available. If mythisist theory does not interest you he also has a book Sense and Goodness Without God which I thought looked interesting. -

I couldn't agree more. I didn't even know they had a site until a few weeks ago when everyone was talking about the lay offs and someone on here made reference to it. I was hoping to find something on there that I could use to start a conversation with my wife about all the new crap. Instead what I found was a bunch of zombies repeating clichés. -

I currently have an active account but it took me three tries to get approved. The first two times they banned me right from the time I submitted my application. (I think the first time was because of curse words in my e-mail name.) It irritated me so much that I took a little time and made sure all my information on my third attempt looked correct. Unfortunately every time I try to read any of their threads i get nauseous. It amazes me how cult like and creepy some of their comments are. -

Thought only JWs were doing the preaching work world wide?
by ducatijoe inas one of jehovah's witnesses for over 40 years, i was always taught that we were the only ones who went door to door, preached world wide, built our own buildings and so on.. however in the past year living in the south, not 1 jw has knocked on my door.
yet 4 various people from local churches have.. tonight i meet a young man who is preaching with a group in china (baptist) a block away i watched a congregation build their own church.. i could go on all night with the thing i have found to be un true with the org.. glad i'm out.

I always found it interesting that the LDS church preaches door to door as well but when I asked about that the witness brushed it off by saying "they only preach for two years while jehovahs witnesses preach thetheir whtheir whole lives. No retirement from being a good witness." Even when i brushed off things that made no sense, that explanation seemed like bullshit. -

by adjusted knowledge ingrowing up i lived in the middle of florida in the southern part.
i had a friend whose father was an elder, and would stay at their homes during the weekends.
one of the "rules", as we all know jw love rules, was that who ever spent the night had to go out in field service on saturday.

the territory in one hall i attended encompassed parts of three states.we would drive from the hall which was centrally located to one end of the territory, about an hour and a half, then go all the way to the other end of the territory and then back home. Five or more hours, two calls, both of which were likely not home, total waste of time.
